In Toeing Treatment Bankstown NSW

What Is In Toeing?

This is a very common condition seen in kids. It occurs when the foot points inwards, which is mainly due to internal torsion and rotation of the tibia (the calf bone). As a result the foot turns inwards and children trip over frequently and may seem clumsy.

Signs & Symptoms Of In Toeing

The body struggles to realign the inward rotation of the tibia. This forces the body to use other compensatory muscles to rectify the child’s walk. This causes muscular aches and fatigue, growing pains and pelvic muscular compensation problems.

If your child complains of discomfort and they start to limp, or their feet swell it should be evaluated by our podiatrists. Treatment options will vary pendant on the cause of in-toeing and some potential options may be stretching, casts/braces or surgery in severe cases.

Frequently Asked Questions

What Causes In Toeing?: Depending on where the legs or feet are misaligned, in toeing can be caused by a curved foot (usually present at birth), twisted shin (most common cause, occurs around age 1 to 3), or twisted thighbone (occurs around age 3 to 8). In toeing is suspected to be related to a genetic history of in toeing or a cramped position in the uterus.

Can In Toeing Be Corrected?: In toeing usually corrects itself by about 8 years old. However, babies from 6 to 9 months old who have severely deformed feet can be treated using casts or corrective shoes and more serious treatment options like surgery will need to be considered when correcting in toeing in older children.

“I Was in terrible pain from constant flare up with plantar fasciitis. Doctor explained and showed me why I had the pain and prepared a specially made insole. I’ll be honest I thought twice about purchasing the insole , now it’s just two months later , I’m walking everyday and sometimes I can run and the pressure has eased of my feet , hips and knees . I honestly never thought I could train again the way I used to and it’s all to doctors great knowledge. I was in excruciating pain and had cortisone injection a year earlier and nothing worked . A tip for insoles is I wear them under my sneaker insole so I have the cushioning I need. Best podiatrist ever !!! Thank you”
